History:
My second Collaboration at Collaboration Central, That 70's Funk started off as an idea I posted. I already had Snapapopolis going but this really cool bass riff just fell out of my head. Not expecting much I was totally surprised with what Ken did for a drum line and then blown away again by what Bill did on top of our parts. I was so stoked that I wanted to make a full fledged song out of the piece, so I quickly got to work and posted an extended bed track for the bass. Ken turned around a great track of drums but Bill had other commitments so he could not work on the tune.
And there it sat until I a got a PM from another person at CC. He said he had his friend (Marty) had heard my tune and really liked where it was going. When Marty posted his organ part, the tune took off and like most tunes on a collab site things started to happen fast.
Pete was keeping an eye on the tune and in true Pete (hey I just just whipped this together) fashion, quickly submited the super sweet melody line and a solo. A combination of 10 parts in all! Marty added a bari part and the main head section was born. Meanwhile Sergio had quietly slipped in his submission followed by Lindy jumping in and lend a hand on the clav. Then we were down to the lead guitar.
After a few submissions I settled on Luis for the guitar for the A and B sections. Roger and I used to jam sometimes when we worked together at Airespace. I basically brow beat him to join CC and submit a lead. It fit perfectly against Luis's style.
Add a few redone tracks and a few hours, yea right a few? =/, of mixing and mastering and the song was done. I'm really proud of how it turned out. The level of musicianship from everyone not only made the process enjoyable but the end result great!
